Tech Products for Seniors

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 9, 2008.

The senior market is soaring. Senior travel, senior fashions, independent living communities are all growth industries. In less than a decade, 10,000 boomers each day will turn 65.

Aging boomers are more fit and active than yesterday’s senior set, and they’re looking for ways to stay independent and connected and healthy. They’re using iPods and staying in touch using Facebook, and they’re not slowing down any time soon.

So some technology developers are shifting their sights from the tech-savvy 18-34 market to meet the coming tsunami of senior needs. Some new tools include cell phones with oversize buttons or voice amplification, personalized cars, a robotic gutter cleaner, an automated pill dispenser, and a key locator.

Eric Taub is a technology reporter for The New York Times. He joins Word of Mouth with more on some new tools for the advanced in age.
