New Hampshire will get its first major snowfall Thursday night and into Friday, with travel advisories already posted on the state's highways.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning, starting at 7 p.m. and extending until 1 p.m. Friday.

Snow projections, on the high end, could be nearly a foot of snow for some elevated parts of the Granite State before the storm moves out of the region.

The forecast calls for Concord, Keene, and Manchester to receive 4- to 8- inches of snow Thursday night, with a chance for another 1- to 3- inches Friday. Portsmouth and the coast may get 3- to 5 inches, with rain possible Friday.

The snow will be heavy at times and there is a chance it will mix with sleet overnight and as the storm dies down, according to the weather service.
