Feel like singing a forebitter? Portsmouth is hosting its 17th Annual Folk Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 23rd through 25th.
The event starts with a traditional music session at The Press Room on Friday night, and meanders throughout the city at both indoor and outdoor locations from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m on Sunday.
According to co-founders Peter Contrastano and Jeff Warner, the inspiration for the event comes from Britain, where festivals are not confined to a single venue, but are spread throughout the community, “bringing entertainment to where the people are.”
Highlights include a crew of maritime singers, shantymen and bold privateers and a “giant, roaring, public sing” on the steps of RiRa in Market Square.
