TD Bank Warns N.H. Customers Of Security Breach

The State Attorney General’s office announcedtoday that more than 43,000 TD Bank customers in New Hampshire are at risk of identity theft. The bank can’t locate two tapes containing sensitive data shipped between locations back in March.

TD Bank is offering new accounts free of charge and a year of credit monitoring to affected customers.

In total, the bank is notifying more than 250,000 customers on the east coast about the breach.

James Boffetti with the AG’s Consumer Protection Bureau says that with so much data out there, this kind of event is bound to happen.

"It happens with much more frequency than I think any of us would be comfortable with."

Boffetti says most cases are like this one: sensitive information goes missing, but no misuse of that data is reported.

TD is the nation’s 10th largest bank. It’s headquarters are in New Jersey and Portland, Maine.
