Sununu’s Millennial Council Wants Better Marketing for New Hampshire

Governor Chris Sununu listens to concerns at a meeting of the Millennial Council in Manchester.

Last year Governor Chris Sununu created the 25-member Millennial Advisory Council to explore ways to attract and retain a younger workforce in New Hampshire.

Concerns about affordable housing, conservation of public lands and transportation were included in the council’s report issued last year.

Last night’s meeting was more of a listening session and millennial stakeholders on and off the council were given time to speak. There were engineers, a coffee shop owner, marketing professionals and artists. Issues on their list included rail expansion, competitive wages and that New Hampshire has a branding problem.

Council member Carolyn Leary works for the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

“We have so many fantastic amenities, but I think sometimes we fall into that trap where we don’t market them as effectively as we should,” Leary says.

Leary says those amenities include easy access to the outdoors and great arts and culture.

Sununu says he agrees New Hampshire has a lot to offer, but asked the question: “How do we package it, bottle it and go to sell it?”
