Sununu Raises A Glass To Smuttynose Brewery's Comeback

Governor Chris Sununu toasts with one of Smuttynose's new IPAs

Smuttynose Brewery is back up to speed on the Seacoast after being sold at auction earlier this year.

North Hampton-based Runnymede Investments bought Smuttynose after that auction, and brought in former Boston Beer Company CEO Rich Lindsay to head up the brewery.

Lindsay says since then, Smuttynose has restarted its canning line, released two new beers and revamped the menu at its brewery restaurant. They've also added new staff and training programs.

Smuttynose hosted Gov. Chris Sununu in Hampton Tuesday, to thank his administration for speeding up the regulatory process as the brewery changed hands.

Toasting with one of Smuttynose’s new IPAs, Sununu said he was happy to do it.

"Look, my philosophy on business is, tell me what I can do to help, and then I'll get the heck out of the way,” Sununu said. “And that's what government should be doing."

The brewery employs 89 people and brings in $10 million dollars a year in revenue.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Smuttynose had filed for bankruptcy.
