The Human Rights Campaign has ranked seven of New Hampshire’s eight biggest cities below average when it comes to gay and transgender rights.

The Human Rights Campaign evaluated nondiscrimination laws; employment policies; services; law enforcement and community outreach in 408 cities and towns. In New Hampshire, only Durham came in above average when it comes to protecting LGBT rights.

The state’s other sizeable cities – including Concord, Manchester, and Dover came in below average.  Nashua scored lowest, earning 29 out of 100 points.

Roughly ten percent of cities nationwide earned perfect scores, including St. Louis, Dallas, and Louisville.

The Human Rights Campaign reports more civil protections at the state level predicted more protections at the city level. The size of a city did not predict outcomes.
