State's Largest Public Employee Union Backs Van Ostern for Governor

New Hampshire’s largest public employee labor union is throwing its weight behind Democrat Colin Van Ostern in his bid for governor. It’s the latest in a spate of union endorsements in the race.

The State Employees’ Association endorsement is a big get for Van Ostern, who's in a three-way primary race with Mark Connolly and Steve Marchand for the Democratic nomination. The union represents about 11,500 state workers across New Hampshire.

In a brief statement, State Employees’ Association President Rich Gulla said the next governor will influence decisions on public employee pensions and healthcare.

“We need a governor who understands these priorities and will fight for them. And I believe that next governor is Colin Van Ostern.”

Van Ostern currently leads the field in labor union endorsements with a list that includes the state’s largest teacher’s union.

Earlier this week, Mark Connolly secured the backing of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire.
