Governor Maggie Hassan says the state will review a case in which a judge stripped a fired Portsmouth police officer of most of a $2 million dollar inheritance from a woman’s disputed will.
According to the Portsmouth Herald, the governor says she’ll work with state agencies to review how they handled complaints that Sergeant Aaron Goodwin might be exploiting Geraldine Webber.
An investigator with the Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services reportedly concluded in 2012 that Webber was not being exploited.
The attorney general’s office reviewed the case and did not find sufficient evidence for criminal charges.
In August of this year a judge dismissed Webber’s 2012 will, saying Goodwin had used undue influence to inherit her home and other assets. Goodwin’s lawyers said he would not appeal the ruling.
