With the election season over, lawmakers' focus now turns to crafting New Hampshire’s next two-year budget.
State agencies begin presenting their spending proposals to legislators Friday morning. It will be the first time Governor-Elect Chris Sununu will outline his plans to budget writers.
In an interview this week with NHPR's Morning Edition, Sununu said further reductions to the state's business tax rates will be among his priorities.
"By cutting the rates, you can entice more business to come across the borders, which again can increase your tax base," Sununu said. "See by breaking down regulation and by lowering taxes you can increase your tax base because you are creating a state that says we are open for business."
Sununu says the budget also needs to address the state's opioid crisis and infrastructure investments. He has until Feb. 15th to submit his budget proposal.
