While air temperatures having been warming across New England, the Coast Guard says water temperatures remain cold and potentially dangerous.
Captain Michael Baroody, commander of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, says the temperature of ocean water is still in the mid 40s, and that individuals should take safety precautions before boating, kayaking or paddleboarding.
Baroody says those planning to spend time on the water should dress for conditions, wear approved lifejackets and make sure navigation and communication equipment are working properly.
He also says individuals should inform someone on land about where they're headed and when they expect to return.
