Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan had a stronger fundraising quarter than her U.S. Senate rival, incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte.
Figures from the campaigns show Hassan raised $3.2 million between April 1 and June 30 compared to Ayotte's $2.5 million. But Ayotte has considerably more money left to spend, with $7 million on hand to Hassan's $4.2 million.
Previous filings with the Federal Election Commission show Hassan raised roughly $1 million more this quarter than she did from Jan. 1 to March 30. Ayotte, by comparison, raised about $300,000 more.
Television advertising eats up a large part of campaign budgets, but the money also goes to staff salaries and other outreach. The Ayotte-Hassan matchup is one of the most high profile races that will help determine control of the U.S. Senate.
