New Hampshire Public Radio is taking a closer look at the impact of trail recreation in the state, in a new series called Off-Road.
Reporter Casey McDermott spoke to residents, landowners, and trail users to delve into the dynamics at play between trail riders (ATVers) and locals impacted by the burgeoning ATV industry. Concerns about safety, regulatory issues, and noise questions all are explored in the series. She also talked to those who say the growth in ATV tourism has benefited the North Country economy. McDermott’s reporting took her north of the notches, visiting Jericho Mountain State Park in Berlin and downtown Gorham.
Todd Bookman also contributed to the series, with a piece on the economic underpinnings of the ATV industry in New Hampshire.
The series will air over three days, featuring in both Morning Edition and All Things Considered:
- Monday, October 30
- Tuesday, October 31
- Wednesday, November 1
