Police Investigate Misconduct, Abuse Allegations at Phillips Exeter Academy

Police say they're investigating allegations of misconduct and abuse at an elite New Hampshire boarding school after it alerted alumni last week a longtime teacher had admitted to two cases of sexual misconduct with students in the 1970s and 1980s.

An email from Phillips Exeter Academy said history teacher Rick Schubart acknowledged the misconduct in cases reported in 2011 and 2015. Schubart was forced to retire and leave campus housing in 2011.

Exeter police had said they determined the statute of limitations had expired in both cases. But the police chief said Tuesday the police department had received information from the school detailing multiple allegations of misconduct and abuse and is in the beginning stages of investigating each allegation.

Schubart hasn't answered phone calls to his home seeking comment. A recording says his message box is full.
