A Plaistow-based construction company has won a $13-million contract for work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Methuen Construction is the winner of a competitive bidding process to upgrade and repair pumping facilities at the Shipyard. The federal contract was announced by the U.S. Navy and hailed by Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan as a win for Granite State business.
“New Hampshire businesses and manufacturers are known for their significant contributions to our national defense programs, so I’m glad to see Methuen Construction participate in that network of local companies investing in our military readiness, and specifically here at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard,” said Shaheen in a statement.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, in 2015, Methuen won a $30-million contract for facility and infrastructure work at the Shipyard.
A report released last year by the Government Accountability Office found that the Shipyard is in poor condition and ill-equipped to handle the Navy’s modern fleet. The report called for more investment.
