North Carolina Man Dies in Boating Accident on Lake Winnipesaukee

Police in New Hampshire say a North Carolina man died in a boating accident on Lake Winnipesaukee after he fell into the water.

Police say the accident happened on Friday morning in the area of Little Mark Island in Alton. They say the operator of the boat was preparing to leave the dock when he made an abrupt maneuver that caused 35-year-old passenger William Rowan to fall.

Police say the vessel then struck Rowan, who was brought to shore and pronounced dead. Rowan was a resident of Wilmington, North Carolina. Police say the accident remains under investigation, but it appears operator error might have played a role. They say they believe the operator of the vessel was a 74-year-old Connecticut man.
