NEC Poll Finds Support For Tighter Gun Laws

The automated poll of 656 random voters found 72 percent support an assault weapons ban and 88 percent support universal background checks on gun purchases. New England College pollster Ben Tafoya.

"Men, women, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, it doesn’t  matter – it’s all very high, and that is fairly surprising coming from a NH audience."

Tafoya says the numbers reflect the “deep and lasting effects” of the Newtown Connecticut shootings.  The poll’s margin of error is 3.82%.  NEC conducted the poll Monday and Tuesday nights.

I cover campaigns, elections, and government for NHPR. Stories that attract me often explore New Hampshire’s highly participatory political culture. I am interested in how ideologies – doctrinal and applied – shape our politics. I like to learn how voters make their decisions and explore how candidates and campaigns work to persuade them.
