Mitt Romney Recalls Campaign In Saint Anselm College Commencement Address

Republican Mitt Romney is encouraging new graduates of Saint Anselm College to live quote-“large lives.”

The former Massachusetts governor and 2012 GOP presidential nominee spoke at Sunday’s commencement ceremonies. And he noted his many appearances at Saint Anselm during his two runs for the White House.

“You just heard that I’ve been awarded an honorary degree,” Romney said. “When I think of all the times I’ve been here at Saint Anselm – debates, forums, town meetings and rallies, I might argue that this is an earned degree. But, I’m afraid, to get one of those I would’ve had to have won.”

Romney advised the graduates to engage in the world, take pleasure in family and friendships, and to expect both successes and failures in career and in life.

"I'm asked what it felt like to lose to President Obama," Romney told the crowd. "Not as good as winning. Failures aren't fun, but they aren't inevitable. More importantly, failures don't define who you are."

It was a busy weekend for commencements in New Hampshire, with ceremonies held at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New England College, Franklin Pierce University, the New Hampshire Institute of Art and the community colleges in Portsmouth, Laconia and Nashua.
