In Laconia, Trump Mocks His Press Pool After Their Plane Is Delayed

Allegra Boverman for NHPR

At a campaign rally inside Laconia Middle School Thursday night, Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump opened his remarks by mocking the fact that his press pool’s plane was still on the tarmac:

"I have really good news for you. I just heard that the press is stuck on their airplane they can’t get here [Applause] I love it. So they’re trying to get here now they’re going to be about 30 minutes late they called and said, 'Could you wait?' I said absolutely not," Trump told a cheering crowd.

The press pool travels on a separate plane for which Trump charges media outlets thousands of dollars a month to ride and be able to cover his campaign. They ended up arriving at the end of Trump’s speech Thursday night. Normally, a campaign’s press corps is able to fly with the candidate.

Trump’s personal plane was able to take off from Laguardia directly, while the press pool's plane was sent to take off from a private airport in New Jersey, hence the delay.
