A Superior Court judge will hear argument next Tuesday in the case of a New Hampshire woman who wishes to remain anonymous after winning a $560 million lottery jackpot.

The winning ticket in the January 6th Powerball drawing was sold in Merrimack at Reed’s Ferry Market. Following the state lottery commission’s instructions, the ticket holder signed the back of the ticket. After consulting with a lawyer, however, the woman now is seeking to erase her name and instead enter in the name of a trust. The move would allow her to remain anonymous, since lottery winners are subject to the state’s Right to Know laws.
According to a legal petition, the woman, who is identified as Jane Doe, wishes to remain in the state and not be subject to scams or solicitation, and describes signing the ticket as a “huge mistake.”
The state Lottery Commission counters that it must enforce its own rules. Altering the ticket could invalidate it.
A judge is holding a hearing on the merits of the case on Tuesday morning in Nashua.
