Judge To Decide Whether Grafton Needs To Reprint Town Meeting Ballots

Jack Rodolico/NPR

A Superior Court judge is set to hear arguments Monday morning in a lawsuit seeking to order the town of Grafton to reprint its ballots for tomorrow’s Town Meeting.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports a lawsuit filed late last week argues selectmen engaged in electioneering by including the board’s opposition to 20 petitioned articles on the town warrant.

The lawsuit was filed by a group in town associated with the Free State Project.

The four people who filed the suit pushed to get those articles on the town warrant, which include asking voters to legalize marijuana and slash the police department’s budget.

The group is asking the judge to force the town to reprint the ballot without the selectmen’s position following each question.

The board of selectmen argues it can legally weigh in on articles, both in favor and against.
