Arizona Senator and former Republican presidential nominee John McCain was out campaigning for gubernatorial hopeful Walt Havenstein Sunday.
McCain and Havenstein greeted people as they dined at the Puritan Backroom restaurant in Manchester, shaking hands and posing for pictures. McCain says he came to lend Havenstein support in what he calls his ‘second favorite state’ because of Havenstein’s business background.
“I believe that after examining Walt’s credentials and the prospects for what is needed here in New Hampshire, I’m confident that he is going to be a winner.”
Havenstein, the former CEO of defense contractor BAE, is challenging first-term Democrat Maggie Hassan. Despite visits from other high-profile Republicans like Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal and Marco Rubio, polls still show Havenstein trailing in the race.
McCain will also be joining second congressional district candidate Marilinda Garcia for a town hall in Hollis Monday morning. And he’ll be stumping for Scott Brown in Nashua later in the day.
