It Is Pavement Not Paws For Mt. Washington Auto Road

Warm weather has forced the cancellation of an attempt to mush a sled-dog team up the Mt. Washington Auto Road.

As Brady Carlson reportedearlier this month the Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennelin Jefferson hoped to make an attempt last Thursday.

Then, a contrary combination of winds and warm weather resulted in a postponement until this Wednesday.

But things only got worse.

“The warming temperatures have revealed the pavement on the Mt. Washington Auto Road’s lower half, so a sled dog ascent will not be possible,” wrote Steven Caming, a spokesman for the auto road, in an e-mail Monday.

A spokeswoman for the kennel said an attempt would be made next winter.

It has been decades since a dog-sled tried to make it to the top.
