A program aimed at helping low-income residents with their home heating costs is getting underway for the season.
Federal funding for the New Hampshire Fuel Assistance Program has been released early, so the program is opening today.
It offers assistance to families and seniors with annual household incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, which for a family of four is $48,500.
Officials expect the average level of assistance will be roughly $650.
Last year the program provided aid to just over 35,000 households.
