Hardware Stores See Big Business Leading Up To Storm
People around the region are preparing for what may be the epic storm of the winter. And that’s good news for some businesses.
Even before the flakes hit the ground, shoppers are making sure they stay warm and safe. John Majewski is the assistant manager at Aubuchon hardware in downtown Nashua. He says he doesn’t like to see the damage blizzards create. But he admits they do fire up sales:
"They close to double for the day versus a normal day sales. We’ll probably see an increase in gas cans, batteries, lamp oil, snow shovels, ice melts, the normal storm things people stock up on in case they lose power or have to shovel themselves out."
Majewski says in previous years when the snow fell every other week, his phone didn’t stop ringing. But this long stretch of dry weather has kept snow-related items on the shelves for two years straight.
And now, with signs of a real winter on the way, the hardware store and many other businesses — from snow plowers to ski resorts — are glad for a change in conditions.
