Guinta Says Win in Republican Primary Should Put Campaign Finance Issues Behind Him

Congressman Frank Guinta looked relieved when Republicans gathered at the Bedford Village Inn for their post-primary unity breakfast Wednesday.

And for good reason.

Guinta not only eked out a win against a potentially dangerous challenger, former BAE systems executive Rich Ashooh. He did it after facing resignation calls from top Republicans, including Kelly Ayotte and Chris Sununu.

By Guinta's logic, voter support for him in the primary should put a year-old violation with the Federal Election Commission behind him for good.

"I'm looking forward, the people have spoken, and I'm going to focus on the issues that I think people care about," Guinta said.

GOP Gubernatorial nominee Chris Sununu agreed with Guinta. He told reporters at the unity breakfast that Guinta's primary "absolutely" puts the issue to rest.

But campaigning Tuesday, Kelly Ayotte told the Concord Monitor her view that Guinta should resign hasn't changed since she first stated it last year. Guinta says he has spoken with Ayotte and is committed to working to help her win reelection.
