A Connecticut man died after falling down a waterfall on Cannon Mountain on Saturday night.

New Hampshire Fish and Game say 23-year-old Zachariah Peterson of Jewett City, Conn., died after slipping and falling the entire length of the waterfall, which drops about 250 feet.

Officers report that Peterson and a friend pitched their tent in the area above an unnamed waterfall along Tram Brook, which runs roughly parallel to the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram.

His friend pulled him from the brook and then ran to the base where he stopped a car in the parkway to call for help.

Franconia Notch State Park workers assisted rescuers by operating the tram to the accident area. First responders carried the man's body a short distance to the tram. The accident occurred at about 11:15 p.m. Fish and Game, police and a rescue that included volunteers from the Pemi Valley Search and Rescue team were called to the scene after midnight Sunday.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, according to N.H. Fish and Game.
