AG Says Man Shot and Killed His Mother at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital

DHMC

A man shot and killed his mother at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on Tuesday, New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said.

MacDonald said in a Tuesday night briefing at Lebanon Police Department that Travis Frink, 49, of Warwick, R.I., was arrested and charged with killing his 70-year-old mother, Pamela Ferriere.

Frink's arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grafton County Superior Court in North Haverhill.

The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon, prompting hospital staff evacuation. More than one shot was fired, according to MacDonald. The attorney general said Frank went to the hospital with the intent to kill his mother.

Lebanon Police Chief Richard Mello and State Police Col. Chris Wagner thanked first responders and hospital staff for their preparedness and response to the "active shooter" alert.

"Our thoughts are with the victim and their family," said Mello.

An email from the Dartmouth-Hitchcock alert system asked all D-H staff to evacuate the main campus, or find shelter in place if they believe their current location is unsafe.

Joanna Buckley, from Hartland, Vt., tells NHPR she was at the hospital to pay a bill when she saw a police officer run down the hallway. She was quickly escorted into an inner office and outside to the parking lot. Buckley says she did not hear shots fired.

Lebanon High and the Hanover Street School, both on Hanover Street, were on lock-down, which was lifted after the man was apprehended.

The Dartmouth College campus, in nearby Hanover, is not on lock-down and classes have not been canceled, according to the college's official Twitter account.

NHPR's Britta Greene is in Lebanon and this report will be updated as additional information is received.
