2018's First Mosquitoes Carrying EEE Found In N.H.

A batch of mosquitoes collected in Salem is the first in New Hampshire to test positive for West Nile virus this year.

State health officials have found this year's first mosquitoes carrying a potentially deadly virus known as EEE.

That stands for eastern equine encephalitis. It was found in two batches of mosquitoes from Newton and Sandown.

State officials says EEE can be more dangerous than West Nile, but it's also less common so far this year. The state has found 29 batches of mosquitoes carrying West Nile this season.

Even as fall begins, officials say people should still take steps to avoid mosquitoes. Those include wearing bug spray, staying inside at dusk and dawn, and removing standing water on your property.
