Both gubernatorial candidates Maggie Hassan and Ovide Lamontagne say the state’s tourism efforts are important but must be weighed against budget concerns.

Lamontagne and Hassan appeared at a tourism summit in Concord Wednesday morning, answering audience-submitted questions from tourism businesses owners.

Both candidates say they wouldn’t support an increase in the Meals and Rentals tax -- the second largest source of revenue for the state.

However, Hassan stated that she wouldn’t rule out raising tolls and the gas tax, but said it’s not likely.

Concerned parents, teachers, and children held a rally in Manchester Saturday to protest the state of the Manchester school district. At least 200 people showed up to the rally at Veterans Memorial Park.

The event was organized by Citizens for Manchester Schools, a group formed in response to a budget shortfall that prompted the school district to lay off close to 150 teachers.

One of the group’s chief concerns is the burgeoning average class size in Manchester, with some classes reaching over 40 students.

Senator John McCain was in New Hampshire stumping for presidential candidate Mitt Romney. 

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, McCain made the case for Mitt Romney to a gathering of veterans and their families.

Addressing the recent anti-American demonstrations in the Middle East, McCain called the president’s response to the attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya a “partial apology.”

New Hampshire Democrats met in Manchester this morning at a Unity Breakfast to set the tone for the run up to the general election in November.

Gubernatorial candidate Maggie Hassan, her former challenger Jackie Cilley, and other Democratic candidates spoke at the party’s first major post-primary event.

In a show of solidarity, Jackie Cilley removed her own campaign button from her coat and pinned a Hassan button in its place, asking her supporters to do the same.

An Executive Council race in the Manchester area turned out to be one of the state's closest primary races.

Colin Van Ostern won the Democratic nomination for the District 2 chair on the Executive Council.  The district includes the Concord area, and stretches from Vermont to the coast.
 
He beat opponent John Shea, who held a seat on the Council from 2006 to 2010.

Van Ostern says the Council’s decision last June to cut funding to Planned Parenthood spurred him to run.  But he made his campaign about the economy.

Ovide Lamontagne secured the Republican nomination for his gubernatorial bid. He beat challenger Kevin Smith and will go on to face Maggie Hassan in the general election in November.

Ovide Lamontagne took the podium shortly after accepting rival Kevin Smith's concession. But he didn't bask in the glow of victory for long.

"Please savor the moment. Savor the moment, because it's over."

Lamontagne's race was one of the first called of the evening, and he wasted no time in setting his sights on his Democratic opponent.

"My name is Ovide Lamontagne, the toughest name in politics. But tonight you made it a winning name."

To shouts of "Ovide," Lamontagne has accepted Kevin Smith's concession and the Republican nomination for gubernatorial candidate.

The crowd is psyched up, standing shoulder to shoulder in the hall. When asked if it's the New Hampshire way to increase spending by double digits, the crowd shouts back a resounding "No!"

In a largely bloodless exchange, Lamontagne and Smith took turns answering audience-submitted questions in front of the standing-room only crowd.

Both candidates said they oppose the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Healthcare Act.

Both candidates affirmed they are pro-life and that they support traditional marriage.

They both staunchly oppose broad-based income or sales taxes.

But the two GOP candidates broke step when a question came up about bringing gambling to the granite state.

Members of Occupy New Hampshire returned to Manchester Saturday to demonstrate outside of the Republican Presidential Debate at St. Anselm's College and spread their message of economic inequality.

Nearly five months after Occupy New Hampshire’s last tents were torn down in Veteran’s Park, the ninety-nine percenters returned to Manchester to demonstrate against what they perceive to be growing economic inequality across the nation.

Nearly a thousand people packed into St Joseph's Cathedral to witness the installation of Peter Libasci as Manchester's tenth bishop.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Libasci was appointed to the position by Pope Benedict XVI in September of this year.

In his first address to the congregation, the newly instated Bishop thanked those in attendance, as well as other members of the church who were watching via television:
