The New Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

Today marks the first day people eligible for Medicare can sign up for what is being called "Plan D", a federally administered program aimed at keeping the cost of prescription drugs affordable. In New Hampshire, private insurers are offering 41 different plans that Medicare beneficiaries can choose from, depending on the types of medication they take. But while proponents of the new plan are calling it a great cost-saver, others are saying it's so confusing even the professionals don't fully understand all the options. We'll take a closer look at Plan D and ask what challenges older folks are facing in picking the best option. Laura is joined by Bernie Cameron, director of the Medication Bridge Program, and Jack Hoadley, Research Professor at the Health Policy Institute at Georgetown University. We will also talk with Dr. Charlotte Yeh, Boston Regional Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
