For veterans, today is the one official day during the year that the nation sets aside to honor their service. New Hampshire Public Radio’s Rebecca Kaufman went to talk with some veterans about the holiday. She traveled to the Liberty House in Manchester, a shelter for homeless veterans. They are planning on celebrating Veterans Day by marching together in a parade.

The Liberty House is a cozy two story building in the south end of Manchester.

Symbols of military service, from flags to placards, are proudly displayed on doors and walls.

The six men now living at the Liberty House milled about, drinking tea and munching on snacks.

To these men, the fact that they’re homeless has had no effect on the pride they feel for having served in the military.
