The recent activity of Mount St. Helens in Washington State has once again piqued the interest of geologists and volcanologists worldwide. One geophysicist who answered the call is Jeff Johnson from UNH. He spent part of this fall near the volcano helping other geologists gather and analyze sub-audible sounds emanating from the unstable site. His work is sometimes dangerous and frequently innovative. Johnson will discuss his techniques and the value of his work in eruption zones around the world.
