Matuschka was already known as a model and photographer when she began to make waves with her self-portraits. The controversy wasn't over a picture of her breast, but a picture of where her breast used to be. In 1991, Matuschka had a total mastectomy; her photograph "Beauty out of Damage" hit the covers of many magazines and launched her own personal campaign to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and its treatments.

Matuschka will join 3 New Hampshire artist and breast cancer survivors in an exhibit called "Moving On: A Breast Cancer Survivor's Exhibit." The show will open with a reception at the Mill Brook Gallery Friday night, 5-8pm. Matuschka will also give a free public lecture on Sunday at 2:30. This show will run until November 8.
