Bush Promises "Safer and More Hopeful America"

President Bush campaigned in New Hampshire yesterday.

Bush used an invitation-only event at Nashua North high school to recap his administration's accomplishments and criticize Democratic nominee John Kerry.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Josh Rogers reports.

The president minced no words when describing the purpose of his visit to a state he carried by a just 7000 votes in the 2000 election.

"So I'm here asking for the vote -- see that's what you got to do you got to get out in front of the people and say I want you r vote….And I'm going to talk about how to make this a safer world and a more hopeful America."

Prime among Mr. Bush's plans for fostering safety and hope is to maintain a firm resolve when addressing that terrorist threats…posed by what the President termed radical ideologues..

"It means we've got to deploy brave troops, it means we've got work with law enforcement it means a full scale offensive campaigns…..and an unrelenting campaign…..It's necessary to be clear visioned and never yielding one inch to these people."

The President added that he saw the nation's post 9/11 duty as leading the world towards peace…..Which Bush promised to do if given another term……On the domestic front, the President said government's duty is to create a climate that helps individuals succeed……He touted initiatives including the no child left behind act……..His administration's increased funding of community health centers……and his endorsement of medical savings accounts…..……..Bush also defended his support of government money being spent of so-called faith-based initiatives…..

"We ought to welcome those programs that have the capacity that to change a person's heart into the social fabric of the American system.…government ought not to fear….faith programs based on faith we ought not descriminate against those programs that help heal broken hearts in society."

The President cast his democratic opponent John Kerry as an enemy of his administration's policies…….Mr. Bush said there were clear philosophic differences…….on healthcare -- which Bush claimed, contrary to the Massachusetts senator's actual platform -- that Kerry would nationalize. Bush also pointed to taxes.

"I'm running against a fella whose already proposed over 2 trillion of new spending…awfully tempting to tell people that they want you to hear ……..we've heard that talks before --tax the right the rich folks…..The rich dodge and you pay… But you won't pay because we'll win in November."

The president will continue to campaign during the republican national convention……His next stop was Detroit……..Bush will accept his party's nomination at New York's Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
