On Warren Bartlett's property in Lancaster, you will find a memorial to 65 former soldiers, marked by simple white crosses. In World War Two, Warren Bartlett volunteered to serve in the 10th Mountain Division, a newly-formed unit of ski troops in the US Army. The 10th saw combat on an Aleutian Island in Alaska and, most famously, in the Italian Alps in the closing months of the war. The 10th took very heavy casualties as they fought in rugged terrain to drive the German occupiers out of northern Italy. Warren gives us a tour of his memorial and talks about his days as a member of the 10th.
