Our losses come in all shapes and sizes- we lose our possessions, our loved ones. Sometimes we lose more abstract things?our memories or our ideals, but in the end we gain something too. We'll hear prose and poetry about five different kinds of loss- and what lies beyond it?Tales of hope and redemption.

"The Attic"

Cynthia Huntington is the author of two collections of poetry: The Fish-Wife and We Have Gone to the Beach. She has won a number of prestigious awards for her poetry including two fellowships from the Nation Endowment for the Arts. She is an English Professor and the Director of Creative Writing at Dartmouth College. Cynthia Huntington lives in Hanover, New Hampshire with her husband and son.

Donald Graves

Donald Graves is professor emeritus from the University of New Hampshire where he taught for 19 years before retiring in 1992. He has written 20 books with 6 translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, and Norwegian. He has also published poetry for children. His latest book The Energy to Teach was published by Heinemann last January. Don Graves is a cross-country runner and lives in Jackson, New Hampshire with his wife of 37 years, Betty Lewis Graves.

From Through the Mirror of My Mind

Andrew Martin was born and raised in Portland, Maine. After his partner, Gil Ornelas' passed away, Andrew sat down to put his grief into words, and wrote Through The Mirror of My Mind. Since then, Andrew has volunteered with Seacoast Hospice and has completed nursing school. He is a contributing writer to the online magazine www.jewishfamily&life.com. Andrew Martin lives in Barrington, New Hampshire with his partner Rabbi Lev Baesh.

"Gone Domestic- The Birthing of a Life"

Holly Whiteside was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and moved to New Hampshire twenty years ago. Now she lives with her ex-consultant-turned-cabinet-maker husband, three golden retrievers, and two cats in a former one-room schoolhouse in Fremont, New Hampshire. She writes personal essays and poems, and is a life coach with a private practice. She has collaborated on a number of books and Internet websites dealing with workplace issues and women's issues. In June, Holly will be touring Ireland with her 200-person a cappella women's chorus, Voices from the heart, which is based in Portsmouth. The Tour will benefit women's shelters in Northern Ireland and across the Irish Republic.

"Rivers of Air"

Virginia Schonwald lives and works in Barrington, New Hampshire where she is assistant librarian at the local public library. She spent several years working as a freelance writer and editor for Heinemann Educational Press and Tuttle Publishing among others. Her work has appeared in numerous local magazines including New Hampshire Profiles, New Hampshire Premier, and Seacoast Life. Her poetry has appeared in South Carolina Review and Calliope. Virginia Schonwald is currently working on a novel entitled "The White Convertible."
