Governor Benson and the state’s top education officials unveiled today/yesterday an ambitious effort to re-write the rules that govern public schools.

The state board of education has the authority to set minimum standards for high school graduation, teacher-student ratios and other aspects of local education. Some of those standards haven’t changed since 1947.

Now, the state board will hold a series of public discussions designed to question everything about how schools should function.
