Democratic Presidential candidate Bob Graham unveiled his economic plan today in Concord. The Florida Senator said if elected, he could eliminate the nation's budget deficit in five years.
Speaking to workers at Page Belting, Bob Graham called the economy the most important election issue?..Graham told several dozen workers that no democratic candidate should be taken seriously without a thorough economic strategy. Graham stressed that his proposal has a basic goal.
"I have leaned the fundamental focus of economic growth?.which is that you put people to work?..That?s a fundamental lesson that the president has not learned."
Graham says his first move would be to replace Bush?s tax polices with 40 billion dollars of middle class tax cuts??.and slight tax increases for people earning more than 1 million dollars a year. Graham also backs a sweeping overhaul of what he called the nation?s economic infrastructure.
"Schools, roads and bridges?..mass transit?.high speed rail?.Information technology?.water and sewer systems?..and our great national parks. These would all be part of our investment for a better future."
Grahams says investing in America?s future also means investing in workers?..To that end, He proposes expanding tax credits to cover a larger share of higher education and vocational training costs??He would also invest billions of dollars in basic research and provide tax credits for companies developing energy efficient technologies.
