Once a month in Portsmouth, a group of people get together to sing sea shanties. The songs harken from an era when young men sought their fortunes at sea and sometimes didn?t return. The rules for the informal sing-along: anyone can bring a song to sing, anyone can join in on the choruses ? but the songs must have something to do with the sea or sailing. NHPR?s Raquel Maria Dillon brought us these voices and songs from last month?s Sing-Along at the Press Room bar in Portsmouth.

The Sea Shanty Sing-a-long takes place on the Second Saturday of every month at the Press Room, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The group will be singing there tomorrow afternoon?
