The state is moving steadily closer to compliance with the new federal education law known as No Child Left Behind. The law provides the state with millions of dollars in new money for schools. But it also holds schools accountable for the higher test scores that money is intended to produce.

Federal Education Secretary Rod Paige spoke with NHPR’s Jon Greenberg about the new law. Paige talked about the widespread concern that the federal government will not give states enough money to pay for No Child Left Behind. He says even in tight fiscal times, the White House has added one billion dollars to support local schools.
