State agency commissioners received some bad news this afternoon.

Governor-elect Craig Benson has asked department heads to resubmit their budgets for next year.

And he's asking them to cut their requests by five percent.

The single largest state agency is the Department of Health and Human Services.

Acting commissioner Cathy Sgambatti tells NHPR's Mark Bevis the cuts will be tough.

But the news was not unexpected.
