You Tell Us: Listener Feedback

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

A number of people responded on Facebook to our discussion on the growing number of couples seeking therapy for environmental disputes, including Don, who wrote:

“Wow. Talk about a cultural divide. Can you imagine, with all the struggling families, paying a counselor to help you resolve environmental issues?”

Christopher agreed and added,

“It’s considerably easier to point fingers when you can afford to drop $22,000 on a new Prius… and you don’t have to drive a 1986 Oldsmobile that gets 8 miles per gallon.”

No comment on the Prius. Emily heard our interview with Mark Schapiro, who investigated inflated claims in the carbon trading commodities market, and wrote:

“It seems like carbon trading is a 300 billion dollar way of escaping the reality of our times. Instead of reducing our carbon footprints, americans are finding ways to sustain our levels of consumption through these self-legitimized trades.”

We also spoke with a Washington Monthly editor about her profile of a small activist bloc within the Texas Board of Ed that has considerable influence on the content of the nation’s textbooks. Listener Robert sent an e-mail asking:

“How can you not present ‘the other side’ before you venture a report on the explosive subject of public school textbooks and especially the nuclear subject of evolution?”

After talking with the producer of Frontline’s “Digital Nation” documentary, listener Sean emailed, wondering if children really need to learn all about new technology in order to compete in the modern world. He wrote,

"The real work is not formatting the margins, installing the printer driver or finishing the powerpoint slides. The real work is teaching the child, healing the patient, and fixing the car."
