Settling The Great Plains, Yesterday and Today

By Avishay Artsy on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

A century ago, homesteaders settled the great plains in search of land and a better life. The pioneering spirit of immigrants from Germany, Russia and Mexico is examined in a new play premiering at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst January 22-24.

Their struggles to integrate their customs and adapt to new technologies still challenge immigrants today. Word of Mouth’s Avishay Artsy attended a rehearsal, and brings us this story.
