Supreme Court Justice John Broderick is expected to make a full recovery from the injuries he sustained in the weekend assault that took place at his Manchester home. Broderick's son Christian has been charged with beating his father with a guitar.

Doctors at Eliot hospital say Justice Broderick could be released from the hospital within three weeks and be back at work in as little as three months?..Dr. Robert Fines say that assessment comes despite the near demolition of Broderick?s facial structure.

'Essentially every facial bone he has was broken and displaced?.so we needed to go inthere find where the bones were, bring them into normal position and fic them in place with plates and screws and wires. This isn?t the most severeinjury we?ve ever done?..but it was and impressive injury.'

In fact, the surgeons who on Sunday spent more than seven hours operating on Broderick say the breadth of the damage done to Broderick?s face may have actually helped ward off brain injury. Oral surgeon Dr. Robert Provencher.

'I think it?s fortunate that the facial bones although they were crushed, the crushing of the facial bones absorbed all of the force of the trauma, protecting his brain, so I think this man is going to do very nicely.'

Provencher also says Broderick?s post operative indicators are thus far positive.

'His vital signs are stable, we don?t have any sign of infection?.and the edema one would expect form the trauma and surgery are subsiding so I think we have the situation under control in this point.'

While doctors acknowledged that more surgeries are probable, and that Broderick?s eyesight may have been affected by his injuries??Today?s / yesterday?s news came as relief to Broderick intimates. Stephen Tober, Broderick?s lawyer and long time friend says the confidence of the doctors is reassuring, especially since Broderick?s condition has made direct communication a challenge.

'He?s not saying much he?s intubated and still sedated. But he know his family is there??You can tell he knows his family is there he?s very much coming back form this and while we very concerned because it was a great unknown on saturday that unknown is now filling in and we now know he?s going to be ok.'

Tober also allowed that Justice Broderick?s wife, Patricia has been at her husbands bedside, and is holding up well in a difficult situation ??Meanwhile The New Hampshire Supreme court is attempting to do the same. Court spokesperson Laura Kiernan points out that state law provides that 3 justices constitute a court quorum?..and says Broderick?s expected recovery means the high court be able to maintain its schedule without any major changes.

'The chief justice won?t be making any substitute appointments?.We wont be asking any any superior court justices to help out. Because we?re hoping as the doctors said this will be a short term recovery and John Broderick will be back at the courthouse.'

Kiernan also says several court opinions in which Broderick participated will be issued in his absence?..She says in those cases all deliberations were complete at the time of his injury??Broderick?s 30 year old son Christian, who was charged with first degree assault in connection with his father?s injuries?..remains in custody on 100,000 cash bail?..Christian Broderick is scheduled to appear in Manchester district court on a probable cause hearing April 10th.
