John Christian Broderick, has been arraigned in Manchester district court for the weekend attack that landed his father, State Supreme Court Justice John Broderick in the hospital with massive injury to his face and head.
'John Broderick you?re here on a class A felony of domestic first degree assault??Since it?s a felony no plea can be entered...Did you want to apply for an attorney.'
A dazed looking John Christian Broderick made this request for counsel wearing orange prison scubs in a Manchester district courtroom packed with reporters eager details about the weekend assault that left Supreme Court justice John Broderick beaten beyond recognition. Assistant State attorney general William Delker told the court the brutal attack followed an argument that seemed to have been resolved??Justice Broderick retired for the evening. Soon after that, Delker said Christian Broderick began drinking whiskey.
'And the more he drank the more he stewed and eventually he became very angry and decided to attack his father while he was sleeping. The defendant took a guitar, entered the victims bedroom and repeatedly struck his father in the head with the guitar.'
The police report says a bleeding Justice Broderick then awoke his wife, Patricia, who was in another room. Upon realizing he was injured Patricia Broderick called 911??.By this time, Police say Christian Broderick had left the premises in the family car to dispose of the guitar?..Upon his return at 4:30, Christian Broderick was met by police, who say he appeared intoxicated, had an abrasion on his hand and blood stains on his shirt??Christian Broderick was then taken to catholic medical center for observation. Twelve hours later, after detailing what police call a long history of conflict with his father, police say Christian Broderick confessed to beating Justice Broderick with the guitar?.. In the prosecutions bail request, Will Delker said the severity of the assault and Christian Broderick?s criminal make him a significant threat to society.
'Specifically he was convicted on feb 26 2002 of unarmed robbery in Massachusetts. It was originally charged as armed robbery. He?s on probation for that charge?..In fact he met with his probation officer the very day he attacked his father??'
Delker also said Christian Broderick has pled guilty to several misdemeanor offenses in alcohol related incidents in Manchester?..including a 2000 resisting arrest charge where he allegedly told police he had no weapons even though he was carrying a butterfly knife??In addition to requestion 100,000 cash bail, prosecutors also asked for several condtions.
'No contact with John T. Broderick?.That the defendant not come within 100 yards of the victim?.And if in the event that he posts bail, that he notify the state if he leaves the state?.That he waive extradition?.and that he notify probation and parole if he leaves the state? And that he use no alcohol and no drugs and that he remain in good behavior.'
Chrisitan Broderick did not challenge the bail conditions?.but did request a bail review take place when he gets a lawyer??.Meanwhile Justice John Broderick remains at Manchester's Elliot hospital?.where he is listed in serious condition.
