I am Gorham native who's father is an unemployed mill worker. I often go back to visit and talk with people who have been affected and unfortunately, it seems to have been older men (55+) affected most. Many were told not to worry when they lost their jobs, not to worry because of the federal prison only to find out they had to be under 35. There are little to no jobs that provide a livable wage, let alone jobs at all- even after job training the unemployment office may push on them. This is why it is so important to create an incentive for people to come to the north country. We need to remember that these "older" people have just as much experience and know how and are often, untapped resources who are eager to work.
