Boston's Honk Festival

By Weekend America on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

If you're in Boston this weekend, look out for an explosion of waving sousaphones and roving trombones. Alternative marching bands are descending on the city for this year’s Honk! Festival. It’s the joy and the nostalgia of marching bands twisted and erupted into a riot of instruments and people – stiltwalkers, fire eaters... anything goes.

We get a taste of the scene, with the founder of one of the bands at this weekend’s Honk! Fest. This piece was produced for public radio’s Weekend America. You can listen to the piece at the Weekend America website.

This year’s Honk festival starts Friday and goes until midnight on Sunday.
