The Music of Dance with Bill T. Jones

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.

Bill T. Jones is known as a provocative choreographer who tackles big questions with emotionally powerful and physically experimental dances. Last year, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company celebrated its 25th anniversary season - a triumph in the precarious world of the performing arts.

Word of Mouth spoke with Jones last fall before the New England premiere of a new work on President Abraham Lincoln. Jones continues with the Lincoln legacy with a new work titled "Fondly Do We Hope... Fervently Do We Pray." It begins a lengthy tour after a premiere in New York next week. "Fela!," the off-Broadway play he directed and choreographed will open on Broadway in November. Given those developments, Word of Mouth is revisiting our conversation with Bill T. Jones.
