Promiscuous Materials

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 1, 2009.

Two years ago, acclaimed writer Jonathan Lethem launched the Promiscuous Materials site, where he offers up story lines and songs created by him and made free - or practically free - for the taking. Lethem charges one dollar for writers, musicians, playwrights, and filmmakers to adapt the ideas as they wish, with a few limitations.

Now that these stories and songs have seeded numerous music, movies, plays and collage art we wanted to know how it's going. Jonathan Lethem is author of several books, including Motherless Brooklyn, The Fortress of Solitude, and Chronic City, which comes out in October. He joins us on the line from Maine with an update on the Promiscuous Stories project.
